One such crop quinoa, Chenopodium quinoa Willd (Caryophyllales: Amaranthaceae), a traditionally Andean grain that has been recently adopted in dry, high-elevation regions Colorado, Idaho, Washington. However, 2021, stem-boring fly, Amauromyza karli Hendel (Diptera: Agromyzidae), was reported grown Colorado’s San Luis Valley abruptly halted this climate-resilient crop. This new agromyzid pest caused complete yield loss some instances contributed substantial declines acreage from 3,000 acres 2021 900 2022. Larvae feed within stems destroy pith, which disrupts nutrient transport causes death or significant quality. Here, we summarize discuss life history management for other species can inform karli. Research focused effective integrated tactics including use biological control, host plant resistance, systemic insecticides urgently needed suppress pest.
